Truth but who's? "if thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought

I was thinking...was is happening with our hard earned free speech rights? Today I am reading a piece of news, where; a film company was firing one of the main characters of the show because of her "abhorrent and unacceptable" comments on social media. That got me intrigued as the actress at least from her outside view of her career profile (MMA Fighter, Actress, Voice Actor, Model) did not seem to be one having these traits Nevertheless appearances can be deceiving therefore I wanted to see that tweet for myself ; I mean such drastic measure must have been taken based of some nonsensical facts with accents of rage and hate towards some category of people. And here is the tweet

Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbours … even by children … Because history is edited, most people today don’t realise that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbours hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views.

Let me start my chain of thought with some words quoted from a very known book :

Who has made us Jews different from all other people? Who has allowed us to suffer so terribly up until now? It is God who has made us as we are, but it will be God, too, who will raise us up again. Who knows? It might even be our religion from which the world and all peoples learn good, and for that reason and only that reason do we suffer. We can never become just Netherlanders, or just English or representatives of any country for that matter. We will always remain Jews, but we want to, too

Do you happen to have read it? Quote was taken from a diary a small little girl who at a very young age is faced with questions about world around her that no child should face. Feeling discriminated by the world around you, feeling alone in the world because your neighbors cannot talk to you or will not talk to you because you were labeled in a specific way is the abnormality felt by millions of people less than a century ago. Labeling entire groups of people based on their believes , social background, political believes or color of skin was a common practice by the Nazi regime to divide the population and proceed with their "Final Solution" plan for conquest and genocide.

The book is called "The Diary Of a Young Girl" by Anne Frank

You might have got then the same feeling of confusion as me when reading the reason why a big Film Studio as Disney was firing someone from stating something true. I have read the statement several times to understand where the the "unacceptable" and "abhorrent" was. She is literally asking the question why people are seeing a difference with how the different political view is characterized as hostile and wrong if we look at only 80 years ago facts. We see all around us a worrisome trend where people are split more in more in two categories . Either you are one or the other. And God forbid that both opinions could be valid. It HAS to be either:

  • Trump vs Biden

  • Woman vs Man

  • Black vs White

  • etc.

Now I refuse and will always refuse to believe that people willingly would believe such nonsense. We have grown as a society and as civilization by the freedom of expression our thoughts, to debate when we have a different view to work together even if we have different opinions. These are External factors induced which are not supporting any progress or enrichment of thoughts. If I try to relate to the actress in question, her world was set upside down for posting something valid, historically accurate but not corresponding to the views of others. Nothing offensive, nothing vulgar, just comparing 2 worlds which seem so far away and unrelated but worrisome in the similarities noticed in the last years.

We are better than this, we should be better than this! A persons world was turned upside down from posting on a social platform. What popped in the back of your mind when also true facts are labeled as abhorrent? Maybe close the account and mark this incident as lessons learned; but can you do the same if you are a public person? maybe next time don't post anymore anything that might offend someone or something…

maybe…

”I am I, and I wish I weren't.” Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

or maybe just we should accept that each one of us is can and should have his own opinions and is able to say:

“I like being myself. Myself and nasty.” Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

Until next time, TFG
