Status Quo - a scary development
I was thinking … have we not learned anything from our history as we seemenly want to play with matches near explosives? At almost 100 Years from the start of the second world war we find ourselves more divided as ever with forces actively pushing for a conflict none of the citizens want.
One of the benefits of internet and communication sharing is the fact that you are able to get your information from multiple sources and not being limited to one flow of data from a language, country, person. We (may still) have the possibility to cross check a news article or a news feed and get if that piece of information is valid or should be added to the (lately) long list of disinformation items. I believe everyone should learn to filter his ongoing flow of information, based on truth. One way would be to take the news from more sources and notice the patterns. For example listening to the news in the United States, in your home country and (if with imigrant roots) your adoptive country as well.
While writting, the description of imigrant people by Trump administration, popped in my head. “Ilegal aliens”. In just sounds demeaning and purposely placed there to mark a group of people which we all should …. hate? As an imigrant myself, I can’t just not feel sad of the word association targeting a specific group for now. Only a few weeks have passed and it seems that not only ilegal aliens are the badies, but also the federal workers which need to justify their work. The description of the Trump administration is that most of the people are bad and they need to be relieved of their function as soon as possible. There is the argument that a restructuration was needed, which might be true but the difference is that is done with an axe instead of a scalpel. Begs the question, who is next in line for such statements?
Now observing the situation which we curently face, from 3 different perspectives (US News, adoptive country and home country) it seems clear that the raise in totalitarian voices is trying to cover the liberal and social values which were de pillars of the Western world. Let’s discuss the situation of the small country of Romania, where one unknown candidate was almost able to destroy the democracy of the country. Even though the evidence raised against him is pretty clear (afiliation with mercenary groups, chats and phone calls and many more), he is still trying to run for president in the postponed elections in this year. After watching his interviews, it is clear that his only scope is to destabilize the democratic institutions and get Romania to the hands of Russia, even though the number of Romanians which support the EU and NATO speak for themselves. That brings me to the man which Trump delegated to do the restructuration of the govement, Elon Musk. I was very surprised that Elon Musk, knew the name of the Romanian candidate and not only that, but also provided support via his platform for the pro Russian candidate. In an interview with Joe Rogan, Musk mentioned that his Nazi salut and his far right afiliations are greatly exagerated.(bytheway also the unkown candidate in Romania, did the salute as well ;) ) Even tried to make a paralel that we have now only left and far right. He denies it, but supports far right movements like AfD Partei in Germany, again, openly via Twitter.
That might seem like a consipracy theory from my side, but everything mentioned can be researched and information is available, for all people who want for the truth to prevale. And that is exactly where we we find ourselves. The Truth and our democratic institutions which have worked in building over so many years are being attacked. Trump is interested in one thing and he will do whatever it takes to get it. I hope I am wrong when I say that if America will not wake up, there will no longer be any ellections in a few years for now. The last time Trump was president, he tried with any means necessary to remain in office. In 4 years from now, with the current developments in internal and external politics, US is heading for having a totalitarian regime. There is a reason why Trump wanted all the bilionares behind him when he was made president. One message would be that he is supporting their business and will provide tax cuts (which he did) and the other, maybe a more hidden one, having them on a leash, he will be able to control the communication as he pleases in the future elections.
To summarize, we have US which is being currently dismantled and rebuild in the vision of Trump, raise of far right parties in Europe and unknown candidates which almost won elections with money comming from unknown sources. A dangerous combination, which seem to be orchestrated from one country: Rusia. Having a dictator in White House is something incredible even to mentione but more and more plausible after analysing all signs.
Nevertheless, we mustn’t forget our democratic values and fight for them with all our strength. We should get together in solving the complex problems which we currently face, not let ourselves divided. We are strong together and only collectively we should move forward to a bright future.
