IKEA Furniture - how to test your relation

This is not a paid marketing article as it might sound from the brief introduction above. Was building the other day a cabinet for one of my daughters together with my wife and started thinking how good in sync we were as we managed to build it in record time. This of course is not our first encounter with furniture pieces from the Swedish manufacturer. Everything started with an empty apartment 11 years ago when we moved at our current address. When I mean empty I do mean empty. The only thing we had was the kitchen furniture but that does not help someone with sleeping. As on the floor was no option, we bought a mattress and we waited for the delivery of our first bed from Ikea. As all things go, the mattress was losing air and we needed to pump it up several times during the night. Fun times 😊
After a few days delivery was there and we got our packages with the bed pieces which we needed to build. At that time we were both working and all work needed to take place in the afternoon (or by exception at night). Meeting our new neighbors because of hammering in our first days after move, was not on our wish list. So we started working on our bed in the afternoon. For someone with experience in assembling Ikea furniture, that would be probably work for 2hours. We needed 3 times the time!
You might think that is bad but the benefits of doing such a project cannot be stated. Firstly, you are building something together which you will use. Second, you are learning how to work as a team, through tiredness and other variables. The instructions provided were spot on, the only part that we were missing was the experience. Going through each step, learning how to help each other and getting it done, was stressful at first but when reaching the end made us feel more connected. I know it might sound funny, but if you have the chance build something together, and if in your vicinity, build something from IKEA. You know that the only test is between you and your partner as the provider gives you all “tools“ necessary in getting your project to a satisfying end.
Why I am so enthusiastic and recommending IKEA? We made 2 times the mistake in ordering furniture from a different provider. Somewhere along the way we said, let’s try something different, as we did not find on IKEA what exactly we were looking for. What a mistake that was! The instructions and workflow were so convoluted and simply bad that, even though we were after a few years proficient in building furniture, we had difficulties finishing the new piece. The main difference is that with IKEA you know that everything will fit perfectly and if you find yourself questioning the result, the error is in most cases yours. Everything is neatly packaged, with step by step guidance which makes you looking forward getting that new furniture piece.
