I was thinking … do we get more and more messages in tech workspace like “xx tech/software/app/workflow is dead … you should try yy“? In my feed there is an alarming number of new content based on exactly this message. I understand that on one side, such messages attract clicks and views but can’t we just stop being so dramatic?
As all things in life, change is a constant that surrounds us and with it comes also transformation but not death. I would argue that only for a certain number of examples, dead occurs when change is coming, especially when the transformation part does not take place.
Let’s take for example a tech product. It does not matter which one, starting from the launch, if the product is good, the competitors are on their tows in bringing a better product on the market as soon as possible. If you think about your phone, each producer is improving it’s product year to year, fighting competitors and himself. Can we say that a phone is dead and we should buy something else? Of course not, next year the “dead“ product might be upgraded to the best thing there is on the market.
Some titles suggested that automation tools like for example N8N are on the verge of extinction and you should learn only AI. Again there is a difference in declaring the tool dead, because all automation can (but should it?) be done by AI. For companies, who value control over blind automation (or in my humble opinion should) there is always a market for tools like N8N. Response of N8N was the introduction of agent integration in the tool, therefore you benefit of both worlds. So is the tool dead? No, it has transformed making it ultimately better for the user.
In the case of software, the recurring message mentioned in the title appears more often than ever. We seem to have no option but to jump from software to software, as they die so quickly (irony). I take the example of ADE (Agentic development Environment). 3 Months ago, Orca was the best tool there was acting as multiplexer of agents. If you waited only 2 months, Herdr was the best new thing on the block suggesting the death of Orca. I simply ask the question why the drama? Why not both? Herdr has a nice terminal integration and Orca has a great interface, both offering benefits for the users…
There are more and more examples of this exaggeration, especially on Youtube space. While they are tempting to click, take a second before doing it. Maybe watch the beginning of the video and understand if the person behind the glass is really trying to present to you a great case for a new software…or maybe the goal is getting those precious clicks. Take that extra second or seconds before committing to a new video. In the end your time is the most valuable asset you have.
Until next time, TFG
